The Office of Industrial Relations is responsible
for developing policy and legislation regarding industrial
relations, occupational health and safety and workers compensation.
The Office is made up of four main teams, with the secretariat
of the Long Service Leave Boards also forming part of the
Office's structure, in conjunction with ACT
WorkCover.
Industrial Relations Policy is responsible
for policy and legislation relating to industrial relations
and workers compensation in the Territory. The section provides
secretariat support to the Industrial Relations Advisory Committee
and Workers Compensation Advisory Committee and support to
the Territory’s representatives on national industrial
relations and workers compensation forums.
Work Safety Policy is responsible for policy
and legislation relating to occupational health and safety,
dangerous goods and hazardous substances. The section provides
secretariat support to the OHS Council
and its sub-committees. The OHS Council’s responsibilities
include providing advice to Government and approving training
courses for Health and Safety Representatives. The Work Safety
Policy team is also responsible for the Territory’s
representatives on the National Occupational Health and Safety
Commission and its sub-committees.
Workplace Injury Performance is responsible
for injury prevention and management within the ACT public
sector including: overseeing the relationship with Comcare
(workers compensation insurer); overseeing the devolution
of workers compensation premiums; chairing agency/union OHS
consultative committee; sponsoring whole of Government policy
initiatives designed to improve workplace safety; and managing
the database for accident and workers compensation data for
the ACT Government agencies.
The Long Service Leave Boards administer
long service leave for the construction and building industry
and contract cleaning industry. Long service leave enquiries
